How Vertical Form Fill Seal Baggers Work

VFFS packaging follows a top-down process. Here’s how it works step by step:

Step 1. Film Unwinding & Feeding

The roll stock is unwound by the servo motor and passes over dancer rollers into the machine. A photoelectric sensor tracks registration marks to align the film.

Step 2. Bag Forming

The film then travels over the forming collar, which folds it into a vertical tubular shape around the filling tube.

Step 3. Vertical Sealing

Longitudinal jaws apply heat and pressure to the overlapping film edges to create a back seal.

Step 4. Bottom Sealing

Cross-heating jaws clamp the bottom of the film tube to form the pouch’s bottom.

Step 5. Product Filling

The synchronized dosing system fills a precise amount of product into the partially formed pouch.

Step 6. Top Sealing

The horizontal jaws close again to seal the top of the filled bag. This seal is also the bottom seal for the next bag.

Step 7. Cutting & Output

A built-in blade cuts the finished pouch from the film tube. The pouch is then discharged into a collection bin or onto a conveyor for downstream handling.
