How to Select a Trough Mixer

While horizontal trough mixers are often considered simple blending equipment, we encourage you to review these factors before choosing one:

Calculate by material weight

Do not choose a wet powder mixer machine based only on volume. Wet granules and pastes are much denser, so you must consider the machine's maximum load capacity to avoid overload.

Select the discharge mechanism

For small batch sizes, a mixer with a manual lever tilting system is usually sufficient and more cost-effective. Larger trough mixers feature a motorized tilt system for safer, labor-saving material discharge.

Match motor power to your material viscosity

If you're working with sticky formulations, you need a mixer with a powerful motor. The Anxine CH series features motor power from 0.55 kW to 7.5 kW, which is strong enough for stable and uniform mixing.

Check sanitary requirements

If you are processing food or medicine, the trough mixer should have polished and fully welded 304/316L stainless steel contact surfaces. This helps reduce dead spots.

How It Works: Lifting and Folding Powders by Mechanical Force

Unlike V blenders and 3D powder mixers that rely on gravity, a trough mixer uses mechanical force to blend materials.

  1. A heavy-duty Z-blade rotates horizontally within the U-shaped vessel. The motion continuously scoops materials from the bottom and folds them over. This makes liquid binders spread evenly throughout dry powders.
  2. During rotation, the thick blade pushes the heavy mass back and forth, as well as up and down, to remove dry pockets. At the same time, the blades break down small agglomerates for a more even blend.
  3. After mixing, the entire trough tilts on its axis to discharge the mixture.

To leave a sufficient space for lifting and folding, we recommend a working volume of around 50% to 60%. You should also ensure that the total load does not exceed the motor’s maximum weight capacity, especially when processing wet formulations.

It can mix dry granules, but it is primarily designed as a wet powder mixer machine. For very fine, dry powders, a V cone blender is usually more suitable.
